Knit 1 Halter/Jumper?

Yay! Finally, a real knitting related post! I mentioned the ill-fitting, ill-fated Knit 1 halter in my last post. I made both pieces, seamed them out and it came out so large! Maybe I didn't pay close attention because I'm using stash yarn, or perhaps I can blame it on my hectic nomadic lifestyle of the moment. This thing just came out wrong. Here's what I thought I was making:

I tried tugging, cinching, and shortening the straps. I considered felting it. Then I put it away for a few days. Today, I put it on again, and just let it hang low, and now, I think I like it! Is the New York heat getting to me, or is it cute? I'm not sure yet. I'm going to put some ribbing along the bottom and try wearing it as a jumper. I'll post again when it's done.

Many thanks to Vy of soknitpicky.blogspot.com for helping me out with my Habu kit! I had gone several days without knitting a stitch and didn't want to buy yarn for a new project just yet. I won't be reunited with all my stash and books for two weeks to a month, and I've got to save my money so that we can decorate the new apartment!

Hmm. Love the color, maybe you could you shorten the neck strap to pull it up a bit to lessen the cross-your-heart action?

Anyway, blame it on the move. Congrats on finding a place to live in NY, btw!

You will need hardly any money to decorate - we made the most awsome finds on the streets on garbage nights. Good luck hunting!
I think your version is great. I can totally see it with a turtleneck for fall.

welcome to NY! btw, wtf about the halter? it's really weird that it is so different but i agree that it's very cute as a jumper!

OMG! that is so hysterical Anne, but you know, I love it!! Wear is as a halter and when you get a chance to SoHo Publishing and show them off! And thank you so much for commenting on my hat!

I've been lurking on your site for a while after I found out that you are also making the Cable Blanket from IK. I really enjoy seeing all the great knits that you make.
As for the ill-fated Knit 1 halter... I think it's funky and really cute. With some ribbing on the bottom I think you could pull it off!
Although I could never leave San Francisco, New York does have some benefits: Purl Soho, Lotta Jansdotter's studio, and Habu. Mmm...
Have fun decorating the apartment!

sorry, i seem to be the only person who disagrees, but it looks like a jumper on backwards about to fall off or something. i don't mean to be mean!

but yay, new york--i'd love to be there and it looks like you guys have found a great place.

How the heck?! I've knitted a few freaks of nature myself, but yours just cracks me up! I'm afraid I don't like it as a jumper, but then, I am terminally un-hip. Is it just that the straps are too long, or is there something more serious amiss?

Hmm. I am withholding judgment until I see the bottom ribbing.

In the meantime, I hope you're settling okay. I'm hoping to get some knitters together to hang out after our show on the 21st -- will keep you posted!

I'm joining the negative column. I can see where your going with it, but it I just don't think it works...
but then I'm ten years older than you, and like another poster said, "terminally unhip!" You have so much style that maybe you can surprise us with it...

wow, how did those straps get so long? sometimes you just can't trust magazine patterns to be 100% accurate.

i do love the color you chose, but i have to admit, i'm not crazy about the jumper version so far. maybe if the straps were thinner it would work better? something about what's going on at the top is a little too overwhelming. (especially since you're so tiny!) i do like where you're going with it, i just think it needs some modifications.

whoa thats a big difference!

you know what though? rock it with confidence and nobody will be the wiser. hell, I didn't like the original, but yours is something that i'd like to make...had i those sexy stems like you!

lol. your "jumper" looks very American Apparel. They would prpabably pair it with gold lame hot shorts and thigh high althletic socks.
I think it would be cute with skinny jeans and chunky jewlery.
